Professor Anthony Barker was a great Oldtime Strongman in the New York Area in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Barker practiced early all around strength and was famous not only for having strong muscles, but being strong all over. In addition to regular strongman training of the period, he trained his jaws with teeth lifting, he practiced lifting with his hair, he did deep breathing to develop his lungs, and he was even known to develop the muscles in his face. Barker had a strong influence on many, including Warren Lincoln Travis and Bernarr Macfadden, to name a few. As a side note, Professor Barker lived to 106 years of age! These are a few of his training pamphlets.
